John chapter 14 has one of the greatest salvation messages I have seen in the Bible. Jesus talks to his disciples about what it means to know God our Creator. He talks about how He is the way the truth and the life. He opens by comforting his disciples and helping them understand that any who have seen Him have seen His Father also. Jesus also talks about how He will prepare a room for us in His Fathers house. Jesus goes even further and says that anyone who believes in Him will do the same works He has done and even greater works than these.

“12. Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.14. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”

John 14:12-14 NIV

Jesus goes on to explain how anyone who obeys His commands loves Him and also the Father and that They will come and make Their home with them. Jesus is calling to all who have ears to hear and a heart to obey.

“23. Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.”

John 14:23-24 NIV

Do any of you have one of those Christians in their lives who always seem to be at peace no matter what they are going through, they are the ones who obey Jesus’ teaching and Jesus makes His home with them. When Jesus makes His home with you so comes His peace and the fruits of the Spirit.

“25. “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.””

John 14:25-27 NIV

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness

Galatians 5:22 NIV

I say all this to you to remind you that Jesus wants to make His home in you and along with His presence comes all the fruits of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, and faithfulness. In addition to the fruits of the Spirit comes the power of Jesus’s name, the name above all other names and naturally His works will be made whole in you and through you. I close this devotional with a prayer, if you will step out in boldness and join me.

” Lord Jesus, I thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice so that I may saved. I accept you as my Lord and Savior today and I ask that you fill me with your Holy Spirit and do a good work in me, transform my life so that it looks more like Yours. I love you with all my heart Jesus, Amen. “

John 14 wraps up with Jesus asking us to “come now; let us leave”. This is the most profound statement of all. It is said that when we decide to follow Christ Jesus, we leave our old world behind to follow Him. These words are not a statement, rather they are an invitation from Jesus himself to us. Come now, let us leave.

“6. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.”

Romans 6:6 NIV
